Roadmap to the Arab Board in Neurology

  1. Entry to training

    After medical school

Entry requirements are set by the Arab Board and your national council; check with them.

  2. Neurology residency (medicine included)

    5 years

Neurology is a subspecialty under the Arab Board Internal Medicine Scientific Council: one year of internal medicine, then four years of neurology. The current curriculum started on 1 October 2020.

  3. Exams during training

End of year 1, then the neurology years

Part I is the standard Internal Medicine Part I, at the end of the first year; it is a general-medicine exam, not a neurology one.

The curriculum lists evaluation exams during the four neurology years; the method is set by the General Secretariat.

  4. Board exams: Final Written, then Clinical and Oral

    End of training

Successful candidates are awarded the CABM-Neuro.

Where the exam fits

The Final Written comes at the end of the five-year programme (one year of internal medicine, then four of neurology), after the Internal Medicine Part I at the end of year one. The Clinical and Oral exam follows a pass in the written.
